The engineers of P & I Design Ltd have experienced an immense transformation in technology as applied in the process industries. This experience has been gained across a wide range of industry sectors including steel, refining and storage, pharmaceuticals, fine and speciality chemicals, food and plant utilities.

P & I Design have published a series of engineering practice books and articles which provide an extensive source of information based on many years of experience and to support our training activities.

We are pleased to announce the First Edition of our well received technical book on Batch Distillation.

The book is available, as a pdf and also in a hard copy bound format.

This book is based on experience gained by the process and control engineers at P & I Design, with the full support from Chemstations simulation engineers based in Houston. This experience is based on design and implementation, involving a wide range of projects across the Speciality, Fine Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Industries to achieve a variety of processing objectives.

This book introduces the principles of batch distillation, the importance of thermodynamic model selection, and describes how process simulation can be used to model batch distillation. Both steady-state and dynamic models are described, allowing the effect of process control to be shown within the model. Process simulations are carried out using CHEMCAD™ software by Chemstations, Inc. of Houston.

Reference is made to many classic texts, industry standards and manufacturers’ data. Information has been mined from individual project reports, technical papers and contributions by specialists working in this field. The references are not a comprehensive list and apologies for unintended omissions.

A detailed review of all the applicable parameters, methods and applications has been carried out supported by appropriate sizing and rating simulations. To date current standards have not set design parameters for two phase flow but the application of dynamic simulation to obtain a better understanding of behaviour is shown.

The book can be purchased at the prices quoted below, which include delivery charges or please contact [email protected]
