INSTRUMENT / ELECTRICAL DESIGNER
P&I Design Ltd. are seeking an Instrument/Electrical designer. The role will be predominantly based at our office in Thornaby however occasional travel to clients’ sites may be required.
About Us
P&I Design Ltd., a privately owned company, was established in 1978. We provide a comprehensive consultancy, design and support service to the process industries in the chemical engineering, instrumentation and control fields. Our multi-disciplined team includes, chemical engineers, instrument/electrical engineers, software engineers and instrument technicians. Diversification has taken us into a variety of sectors including data centres, government departments, hospitals, universities etc., particularly in our PLC/SCADA automation work. We are UK & Ireland agents for CHEMCAD software for which we also run training courses. P&I Design operate an ISO9001 accredited quality system. We have a small, friendly team with very low turnover of staff. Our goal is to operate as an extension of our clients in house engineering capacity.
Role & Responsibilities
As an instrument / electrical designer you will provide design support to project engineers. Your skill set will include:
- Ability to design to a detailed level based on an outline scope from an engineer, with limited supervision. Design scope to include:
- Detailed instrumentation design ranging from pneumatics to PLC controls including cable overviews and schedules, instrument loop sheets and instrument hardwired logic drawings
- Detailed electrical design ranging from 24Vdc to 415Vac. MCC, LV switchgear and instrument control panel design including wiring diagrams and internal/external layout drawings
- Draughting of Process & Instrumentation Diagrams
- Design calculations including intrinsically safe descriptive system documents
- Safety Instrumented System design
- Contribute to setting and maintaining company standards in the area of CAD draughting
NB This list is not exhaustive, other responsibilities may be required to meet business needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of HNC (or equivalent with experience) in electrical / instrument engineering. The role would ideally suit someone apprentice trained or with an instrument technician background
- Sufficient experience to facilitate the ability to be self-supported with limited engineer input
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office (Word / Excel), AutoCAD and similar. We operate a predominantly paperless office.
- Working knowledge of international standards including BS 7671, BS 60079, IEC 61511
- Excellent communication skills, ability to liaise directly with clients, suppliers, contractors etc.
- Commitment to continued professional development and membership of professional institute at the appropriate level.
