SAFETY INSTRUMENT SYSTEMS

It has to be realised that all equipment and all instrumentation fail, how often and how they fail has a major impact on Process Safety.

Equipment can be designed and manufactured to have a higher reliability and equipment can be used with redundancy to provide even better reliability.

In the process sector the new BS EN 61511 provides a life cycle approach to the use of Safety Instruments Systems. This includes determining the SIL (Safety Integrity Level) and ensuring the use of Safety Instrument Systems follow well designed stages of specification, Design, Installation and Proof Testing.

P & I Design have been involved in the design of safety systems for many years and can provide expertise in SIL Determination, System Design, Commissioning and Proof Testing of these systems.
